Stewart 1: Death 0

Stewart was at the mechanics this last week waiting for them to put a new windshield on our car, when an older man who was talking to a mechanic at the counter collapsed.  Stewart looked up when he heard the mechanic yelling over and over "Boyd, Boyd, are you okay?".   Stewart went over and asked if anyone checked to see if he had a pulse?  And the two guys standing there, just looked at him blankly.  So he checked to see if there was a pulse, and the man didn't have one.  He asked if anyone knew CPR?  And again the two guys just looked at him with blank stares.  So with no other options, Stewart started to preform CPR on the man.  Stewart said with the first couple of compressions he felt the guys ribs break. (Which later that night, Stewart would have slight PTS about. I don't blame him. I was pretty grossed out just hearing the details.)   After 30 compressions he asked the other guy to check to see if he had a pulse... but the other guy was still and shock and said he didn't know how to check the pulse. So Stewart was a one man show.  He was able to get a faint pulse and the old man gulped for air a couple of times. After about 5 minutes, the paramedics showed up but they had Stewart continue with compressions while they set up their electrodes and stuff.  After the paramedics zapped the guy he gained consciousness and they whisked him off to the hospital.

The following day, Stewart had to go back into the mechanics for something and the wife of the old man had come in and said that her husband was going to be fine and wanted to thank Stewart for helping with saving her husband's life.  He had had a heart attack but was expected to make a full recovery.  Yay!

We're all very proud of you Stewart!!!

NO WAY!!!! I died reading that story. I've always wondered how I would react if put in a situation like that. That is amazing that Stewart just went right into "lifesaving mode". That's awesome. Way to go, Stewart!!

P.S. The ribs part totally grossed me out but I've heard in every CPR class that if you're doing it right it will likely break some ribs.

I am without words. That is truly crazy. That's amazing. That guy would have been dead without him. Hooray for SuperStewart!
